California Issues Help Save Women's Lives!
Tell the California Legislature: Every Woman Counts! Click here to tell your state legislator to support early detection services for all women! Thank you for your support!
Hard work, planning, and outreach pays off, as evidenced by the California Affiliates who met with more than 70 state legislative offices on February 11, 2009. More than 20 Komen activists descended on the Capitol in Sacramento to educate and remind legislators about the impact of Komen in California and the value of the state breast cancer screening program. Their efforts were well received by the legislators and the coordinated approach to Lobby Day also showcased the strong collaboration among Komen California Affiliates. Attendees were able to visit the state Senate floor where they were greeted by a "Welcome Susan G. Komen for the Cure" sign in bright lights behind the dais. Four representatives from Komen Los Angeles County Affiliate attended the Lobby Day: Catherine Mullally, Vicky Figueroa, Sharon Schlesinger, and Joanna Morales. Komen Los Angeles County representatives attended meetings with 20 California State Senators and Assembly Members from the Los Angeles County area. California Community Challenge: January 2008 The Komen Los Angeles County Affiliate had 20 representatives attend the Komen Community Challenge and Lobby Day in Sacramento, January 17-18, 2008. Komen LAC volunteers and staff met with 16 State Senators and Assemblymembers from the Los Angeles County area to garner support for the three pieces of legislation proposed by Komen - AB 2035 (Ma), SB 1348 (Cedillo), and AB 2887 (Berg).
