Summary of Priorities
The Los Angeles County Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure offers grants to non-profit organizations that provide culturally appropriate breast health education and breast cancer screening, treatment, and support programs that reach medically underserved individuals. A major focus for local grants is to help women who have symptoms of breast cancer and cannot afford diagnostic procedures, either because they do not have health insurance or their health insurance will not pay for these services and because they do not qualify for public funding since they are under 40 years of age.
Based upon the disparities identified in the Komen LA County’s most recent Community Profile, we strongly encourage applications that will provide new or expanded projects on at least one of the following programmatic objectives listed in order of priority:
1. Breast cancer diagnostic services for symptomatic women and men
2. Breast cancer patient advocacy, navigation and resources
3. Breast cancer psychosocial support and assistance projects
4. Breast cancer outreach and education

Also in line with the findings of our Community Profile, projects should target at least one of the following priority populations (listed in order of priority):
1. African American Women in SPAs 6 and 8
2. Latina Women in SPAs 3, 4, and 7
3. Asian American and Pacific Islander Women, in SPAs 3, 4 and 8
4. Women with low incomes and/or who are uninsured/underinsured
5. Symptomatic women under the age of 40 and symptomatic men
6. Women who experience barriers to accessing care (i.e. geography, language, disability, age, etc.)
