National Spotlight

Who are you running for? — Join in the fight against breast cancer by running a full or half marathon through Marathon for the Cure™

Rally for the Cure — Golf, tennis, dinner events and so much more...

A brand to trust — We are honored that Susan G. Komen for the Cure® ranked number one in a recent Harris Interactive poll as the most valued non-profit brand and the charity people are most likely to donate money to. Additionally, Komen for the Cure ranked second on the 2010 list of the nation’s most trusted charities. Thank you to all who help us daily in the fight to end breast cancer!

Volunteer

Our volunteers come in all sizes, shapes and colors, but their hearts are pink and their caring has no limit. Are you a leader, a thinker or a doer? Use your talents in our promise to save lives and end breast cancer forever!  We need you now more than ever. Volunteers provide countless hours contributing their skills to further the Susan G. Komen for the Cure® promise. We will work with your availability.  Every minute you spend helping gives another minute of hope to those affected by breast cancer.

Community Outreach Advocate
Health Fairs and other Community Events – Community Outreach Advocates will help Komen LA County spread the important message of early detection, basic breast health and early detection.  Advocates will actively pursue events in the community in which Komen LA County can promote breast health awareness.
Komen Outreach Center – The Komen Outreach Center is located in the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza Mall.  The center is staffed by volunteers who help to put on various events and programs and engage those who come in for more information or to purchase Komen merchandise.  The store is open Monday-Saturday 12-7pm and Sunday 12-4pm.

Speaker’s Bureau
Speaker’s are the voice of Komen LA County and go into the community to speak on various topics.  Often they share their survivor story or how breast cancer has touched the lives of their loved ones.  Other topics include Breast Health 101, Introduction to Komen, and Komen’s Presence in LA County.

Office and Clerical Support
Data Entry – Volunteers are needed to help create a variety of databases and lists, as well as input of Race registrations. Computer knowledge/typing skills are necessary. Most data entry takes place during mid-August to just after the Race in September.
Office Assistant – Opportunities arise throughout the year where clerical help is needed in the Affiliate office for a few hours or a few days. We would like to have a list of volunteers who can be contacted on short notice to come and assist during the months leading up to the Race as well as other times throughout the year.
